HDS SDR50 with a Prometheus Slate Green Aspheric "Window":

Slate-Blue Aspheric Lens on white painted reflector
2 extra O-rings and a Prometheus blue
O-ring all needed to take-up space to press, center and
secure the lens. Gently hand tight.

The hideous white-wall beam-shot at 4'...
However, in the woods this
throws like a champ. I think 90%
goes way down range and 10% is very
useful spill to my toes. The projection of the
LED die is much less noticeable at distance.
Actually becomes a thrower of sorts.

I like it. Wish there was an HDS sanctioned
option for an Aspheric

@wweiss
Did you used the original White HDS reflector with a "special" lens by Prometheus and some special o-rings? A few more Details would be interesting like what lens, and so on...

WarriorOL:

I created my own white reflector from a spare.
I mounted the Quark MkIII aspheric lens in place of the HDS window.
I needed two HDS head O-rings, one under the aspheric flange and one on top and - a blue FSilicone O-Ring from Prometheus as this is thicker and sort of fits.
All the above "sort of fits" well enough to stop the aspheric from rattling but not nearly watertight. It's just enough to test the concept for me.

An official option would be outstanding :)

It would have to be custom designed for specific LEDs as to die shape and focal length to produce the right beam geometry. Very expensive if made out of L-BAL 35 (589/611) glass.
The Quark lenses are custom made out of Injection molded optical grade PMA - so that could be an less expensive option.

A beam shot taken on a dark street with the SDR50 on 24 with the aspheric. The three reflectors are 115 yds distant. Notice the spill in foreground- this is representative of what you see as to close awareness. It was
a clear full moon.
