Maybe it's time to get some discussion going on LEP flashlights here.
Here is a list of LEP flashlights that I know off, and many of them I own.

Wow. That's a lot of LEP's! Been on the fence with getting one as there not really practical except for very special applications but would still love to see one with a led ring around the lep for general use.

I have one and to be honest it`s not Really practical for everyday use (unless you like ceiling bounce), it can be a lot of fun outdoors at night for sky writing though, especially if someone else is doing similar a distance away :)
My HID gives a much wider beam at about the same brightness and distance and is Much easier to see.

I think this is not the right place to have a discussion.. almost nobody visits this section on the site. It's not in a very convenient place, and hard to find. And you only find it if you really search for it. I think this "LEP" section was made too early before the topic became mainstream since it has only like 15 posts in 1 year. I would have kept it in the main flashlight discussion to get more interaction.

Edit: I was thinking about it, and if it was me, I would just put this section under 'Flashlights' which is a more proper place IMHO.

True,
but how about adding it to the main Flashlight overview?
That's a much more suitable place for flashlights. It's not a laser pointer, and not really 'beyond flashlights'. It's like going from incandescent to LED :D it's just a new technology.

Mods do not determine the "structure" of the forum, that is an Admin function.

As such, your specific comments above more properly belong in "Questions / Problems / Suggestions"

I recall CPF staff having this discussion around the time of creating the LEP forum, with reasoning on both sides. I think that a sensible case was also advanced for listing LEP in the "Spotlight / HID" forum.

However, if I recall correctly, the thinking back then was that the relevant technology and applicable regulations were most "laser-like" than "flashlight-like"

Should you feel that ought to be reconsidered, or otherwise want to discuss, you are welcome to mention that over in Q / P / S

I don`t think too many folks even have a LEP (or want one) TBH, with HIDs being only slightly more popular, so that will reduce the likelyhood of much discussion as well.

When the first LEP came out it was 350 lumens and 250Kcd. I was like, no thanks, I have a torch that does 780 lumens and 1.3Mcd (TN42VN Oslon Black). But then came the Mateminco FW1 and a nice Summer Sale. It was too good to turn down.

I like the LEP. Distance from Old Zoo picnic area parking spaces to Bee Rock peak is 583 yards. Mateminco FW1 lights it up like a Selfbuilt 100 yard beamshot with the Surefire UB3T:

This has crossed my mind for use on a weapon light rather than as a flashlight. Not having a lot of spill outside of the area you're targeting sounds like a good idea + no short range spill limits your "footprint" if you're not hanging out a window [(like in the movies) hint that's NOT the way to do it if you want to live long] A laser sight might be better for my use. Still $$ is tight enough that it's down the list aways

I think as the technology improves they will be more widely accepted/used. I have an Acebeam W-10 2nd gen for night walks. The spot to flood ratio works for me.
It will be fun to see how LEPs evolve.

I own the Sky Lumen light and like it. Which of the lights you listed has the farthest throw / highest lumen
