i just got a xexon bulb for my maglite (6C) for the car, i guess the advantage is a more focussed beam, seemed about the same brightness level to me...any thoughts ? i know i should have the rechargable but mine was only about $23 and it makes quite an impact weapon.

Lots-Run a search here and in Homemade/Modified lights using Ginseng as the poster and you will be amazed.

Some are easy, bulb replacements, etc.Others get much more complex. If you go to the Homemade/Modified page and ask, lots of people will respond.

According to Mag, the Xenon are a little brighter:

I find the M*g Xenon bulbs to be usefull in other lights more so than M*gs.

In a M*glight itself, they generally make a tighter (and therefore whiter ) beam. In something like a TEC 40 a 4cell Xenon is NICE!

In an older PR based Rayovac 2AA, a 2 cell Xenon and Lith AAs are SWEET!
