I kept getting directed to porn pages cause I didn't have my popup blockers on and the site below has installed itself onto my start page in IE and I can't change it. The instructions below were give to me on the page which I shall link below. I'm not very computer knowledgeable and don't exactly know how to follow the directions below, any suggestions and here is the original search page.
http://searchpage.cc/1507/
If you don't want to continue using this page, follow instruction below:
1. Download uninstaller (right click and choose "Save target as.." from pulldown menu

2. Run it

3. Reboot your PC

4. Run it second time

5. Change your start page to "about:blank" in the IE settings (Tools -> Internet Options)

6. Click "Start" -> "Run" -> regedit

7. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\

8. Select key {FF1BF4C7-4E08-4A28-A43F-9D60A9F7A880} and delete it

Enjoy with your clear PC.. and quit looking for free porn

I assume you have gone to Tools/Internet Options and tried to set the home page back to your chosen site?

If you cannot manually remove it try this:

WinPatrol

http://www.winpatrol.com/

This program installs and monitors. If you want or need a passive program (one that you run by yourself) that will find and remove BHOs try Spybot Search and Destroy. You will still have to learn a bit and make choices.

SpyBot Spybot

I've tried manually setting my start page on IE tools and tried system restore to no avail. This program that i've linked on my first post won't seem to let me go to the winpatrol.com site, I keep getting referred back to the search page, this is beginning to be very upsetting, I don't want to try using their fix for fear of causing further damage.

Ok that's REALLY funny. I was just going to post a link to AdAware but I got a good /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif chuckle out of that because if you called me at work (MSN Tech support) and complained about this (Redirected IE start page) I would say something like:

I understand how frustrating this spyware can be, blah blah blah, lets download AdAware.

Keith I see your email in your profile...

If you are still having problems I will email you the Spybot program and you can install it and run it.

It would be easier for you if you had DSL or another high-speed connection but if you don't and are willing to wait for the email it should clean up tje problem...which seems to be nasty BHO.

I'll stick around for a while to see what you need.

I already have spybot and run it again, it seemed to find several that Mcafee didn't find, this is very frustrating, I know I can have the last laugh if I get desparate enough but I don't really want to toss my relatively new computer out the back window. I still have that darn search page coming up as my start page, it's a good thing that the people who think this is really funny aren't standing in front of me right now. The question is, has anyone looked at the how to rid myself of these instructions and is there anything else I can try, I don't want to screw up my registry.

Sorry, I don't doubt that Spybot is better, AdAware is the one I am allowed to recommend without getting in trouble.

Try Start Page Guard from this site . I do not know if it removes malitious program from the computer but it blocks any program attempting to change start page settings.

OK the registry key they specified MIGHT be the one you want to delete...it might not be:

FF1BF4C7-4E08-4A28-A43F-9D60A9F7A880

Open REGEDIT and go to search for THIS:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\

Delete all entries.

Complete the search (you will see it again) and delete entries.

This will remove all Browser Helper Objects registered on your system.

Which is likely a good thing......

Most BHO's to date are benign....some are not

keithr..if this does not work for you send me a PM.

It's easier to talk one on one and we can go into more detail.

I will try to get you fixed without your having to wipe and re-install.

I cannot promise anything but I'll try.

Start>Run>Regedit>Edit>Find>Start Page

then edit your values back to whatever you want your homepage..

also try deleting any registry keys related to the page that took over manually (very good idea)..

also with Spybot, you can go into advanced mode and "immunize" your homepage from being changed..
or you can go to Start>Run>Regedit then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Control Panel (or if you don't have that you can create it by right-clicking "Microsoft" then choosing "New, Key" and naming it "Control Panel", then righ click THAT key, select "Dword", and name it "Control Panel".. then set it's value to 1 to restrict your home page.. or change it to 0 to allow your homepage)..

if the problem isn't solved, then you still might be able to use your system restore..

DISCLAIMER:
i'm just babbling, 'cause i'm really not computer savvy.. those are just things i've had to do in the past a couple times that worked..
