What is the difference btwn the KL1/3/5? I know the 5 is a 5 watt, but what about the 1 and 3? Are those both 1 watt? Is the 3 a 3watt?

The KL1 and KL3 are 1 watt LED's. The KL5 is a 5 watt LED. Also the different heads are for different bodies as well.

KL1= e series
KL3= 2 battery m and c series(d series too I think)
KL5= m and c series(2 or 3 batteries I believe)

KL1: 1W LD LED with a buck/boost driver, runs from 3V-6V and maybe also on 9V, but I am not sure here.
KL2: 16 x 5mm LED, only for the M3 and M6 lights
KL3: 1W LD LED with NX05 optic, buck driver 6V-9V I think
KL4: 5W boost with reflector, driven at approx. 660mA, slightly underdriven
KL5: 5W boost driver with deep reflector
KL6: 5W buck driver up to 12V with very deep reflector and best throw of all the KL heads
KL7: we'll see

P.S:: no guarantee on the voltage nzumbers though

My KL2 has 19 white 5mm LEDs. Either you accidentally typo'd this or SureFire has decreased the number of LEDs in this bezel without informing me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

KL1 is for 3 volts to 9 volts.
KL3 is for 6 volts to 9 volts.

These can be had with white, red, green or blue Luxeons.

Can you explain what you mean by "buck" or "booster" driver?

From my website, here's the short version:

Boost - A DC-DC inverter that raises the voltage enough to drive an LED
Buck - A circuit that drops the voltage down so the LED doesn't get smoked

how these 19 leds compare to a single luxeon?

I just took the following photograph, comparing a KL1 and a KL2.

kl1vskl2.jpg

On the left is a KL1, using a 1.2 watt Luxeon LED and what I believe is a NX-05 acrylic optic.
On the right is a KL2, using 19 5mm (T1 3/4) white LEDs.

The KL2 actually produces more total light than the KL1, but the KL1's beam is focused into a tighter hotspot, so it looks brigher and reads brighter on the light meter.
The KL1 measures 351,000mcd, and the KL2 measures 174,000mcd.
But like I said, the KL2 produces more total light, when the two were compared using the poor man's integrating sphere (a windowless bathroom).

What is hard to see in a picture is just how broad the KL2 beam is... it rather went out of favor when the luxeons came in, but it is still a great light for filling the room and runs around an hour and a half full bright plus about a whole night's worth of pretty useable light...Great for power failures on an M3 or M6 body...

well ... now that the KL6 is out, IMHO the KL2 is ashes since it is beaten in runtime and brightness as well as throw by the KL6.
