Great pix, Nitro. I would also like to know more about your setup: scope, camera, coupling device, etc

Re: Isn\'t Jupiter Cool?

Not the best of shots considering my equipment, an 11 inch SCG, and a 6 megapixel camera. Although, those shots were my first attempt with my then new camera.

I'm going to try a new technique of stacking shots, which is supposed to produce clearer images. You take multiple shots at a shorter exposure time and then superimpose them together to make the final image. Tracking doesn't become as critical either.

Jupiter is even cooler than lightinig or the moon. Did you know that Jupiter has a moon that is larger than some planets and a storm that is older than many countries?

It also has a metallic core, and oddly enough that metal is hydrogen. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Isn\'t Jupiter Cool?

really great shots !
I did not think that this was doable with home equipment ...
do you have to be in a very dark location or can this be done in an urban enviroment, too?

Kiessling,

You can do planetary and lunar astrophotos in an urban environment because those objects are relatively bright.

Deep sky objects (anything out of our solar system such as star clusters, nebulas, galaxies, etc) require pretty dark skies to be photographed. Deep sky objects are much dimmer and are more adversely affected by light pollution.

I live about 25 miles NW of Chicago.

The D60 has the option to lock the mirror, one of the reasons I bought it.

Here's a Star Cluster. See the Binary Star in the top right corner.
