Definitely brighter and whiter than the original bulb, decent price. Sometime next week I'll be able to compare against a MadMax sammie.

You'll find the MadMax will eat it for lunch! The ministar I have originally had a side emitter. The beam was crummy IMHO. I managed to make it TONS better by putting a hi dome emitter in it instead of the side emitter. By the time you get done buying an emitter and putting it in, you'll be money ahead to get a MadMax Lite/1w hd. BTW I found the SO17XA reflector works nicely with the MadMax. Put a fat O-ring on the top end of the reflector to hold it so focus still works.

EDIT: You might want to do a CPF search on MiniStar. You should get a gazillion hits.

I like it.

Yes, the beam does have some rings in it, but it is not a big problem for me.

For the money, consider the UK 4AA eLED from Brightguy. It is bright, nice beam, rock solid regulation, and for $20 it is hard to go wrong.
