I've had one of these things for about a year now, and it's still on the same set of batteries it came with.
Unlike all other white LED flashlights, this one uses a milky diffused LED, so the light is very even and diffuse. It is for close-up tasks only; though once you've adapted to the dark it makes a good walking-around-the-house-at-night-without-stepping-on-the-dog's-tail light as well.
