I've been looking at a few how to's online about anodizing aluminum. Does anybody know if it would be possible to anodize a silver Mag in a custom color? I guess there must be some kind of coating on the aluminum to keep it shiny, right?

You'd have to strip the existing anodizing off before re-anodizing. I believe the silver mags are anodized clear.

I'm not sure but the mag's with the camo finish seem to just be painted. it would seem like this would be easy to strip down and cleaned for ano. Another CPF member named kj did a natural hard ano. Maybe shoot him a PM?

Clear is very common, simply anodize without any dye. Drano/sodium hydroxide/lye will strip the anodizing from aluminum. When you reanodize a MM, you will need to mask the tail threads, inside the tail cap, and inside the front end for electrical contact.

I actually asked kj about it. He had his minimag anodized (HA III) at a local shop (I forget where he lives). Maybe you'll find an anodizing place in the yellow pages?
