Hi everybody,
If you have read any of my latest post here you may remember that I have been battling kidney stones. Got a phone call from my doctor today about some test that were done a couple of weeks ago and the news is not so good. It appears that my left kidney is failing and may need to be removed. It is not 100% yet but it is not looking good. I did pass my latest kidney stone yesterday so that is good news /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/clap.gif. My problem is that severe pain continues for several days afterward. To be honest I have been in constant pain for over 6 months now. Not severe mind you, just feels like someone hit me hard in the kidney. I am asking for prayers to help my family deal with this situation. And please dont forget that there are many more people out there who need prayers more than I do. I appreciate all of you and if I am not one the forums as much in the future dont worry. I may not be missed anyway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Thank you for letting share this with you.

Prayers sent. Make sure you get at least 3 opinions from diverse doctors before any surgery and don't waste any time doing it. I am assuming you had a failed lithotripsy which is causing the recurrent stones.

As fellow sufferer of kidney stones you have my pity. I am running on 1.3 out of 2 kidneys. I've had some success in keeping them a bay by drinking40-60 oz of water a day. Have they had any luck with the ultra-sonic stone blasters breaking up your stones into smaller stones that are easier to pass?

Good luck.

Thinking of you, LifeNRA. My problems diminish when I learn of others who battle constant pain and recurring medical conditions. Good luck to you.

I have had lithotripsy before, not this year, but that is not what is causing me have more stones. I have been to 3 specialist and not one of them has come up for a reason I keep producing kidney stones. I already have medical bills out the yingyang so I have not had any broken up this year. I did have to have one removed the old fashioned way this year because it was too far down my tube to break up. Had to have that rubber hose inserted into my tube for a couple of weeks. I will be sure to get more medical opinions before any surgery. Thanks all for your prayers and wishes. And Roy you have my simpathy. Hope you never have another.

What about the good ol' pain passer of having a beer or two?

My dad has had a kidney stone before, and this is one of the ways to help him with the pain.

It is a combination of factors. Have you had any luck with a medication cocktail such as hydrochlorothiazide and allopurinol?

Monolith,
To be honest I have never heard of the cocktail. I have wrote it down and will look into it as well as ask my doctor about it. My stones are calcium oxalate if that means anything.

Illuminatingbikr,
I do not drink. I would drink some beer if I knew it would help me pass them or keep from having them. The latest diet they have me on says not to drink beer at all.

Jeff,

Don't know if you are (like me) part of the well over 50 crowd or not, but stuff like this is always trying, more so when older. My prayers and best wishes to you and your family.

Essentially, you are producing too much and also lacking some chemicals that in turn create the stones. The 'cocktail' is to reduce one chemical while promoting another. It requires a balance of the two over a period of time (maybe 6 to 12 months). One of the chemicals is produced sometimes due to leakage and thus absorbed into the kidneys. If you have not talked this over with any doctor before, please check into this immediately. I wish you the best of luck with this issue.

jayflash,
Your problems are not diminished at all. Dealing with a financial situation can be just as stessful and harmful to your health and family life. I pray that you find a job soon and that burden is lifted from you.

bald1,
Not there yet. My main thing is that I want to get over this so I can spend quality time with my family. I just want to be a good father and spend some quality time with them. My family suffers nearly as much as I do when I am sick.

Jeff, certainly prayers your way for you and your family! My mother-in-law and father both went through it several times. I had to drive my dad to the hospital during his very first "attack" and I had just gotten my driver's license - scary indeed for both of us!

I can relate to the family suffering as well. Hang in there, count your blessings and do what you can for your family!
