This led was kidnapped from this flashlight
From Golden Gadgets.
It was a HORRIBLE bin so currently it's direct driving (there was a regulating circuit) a T-bin Lux3 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
With 800mah AAA's it runs about 1.5 hours.
VERY bright.
I then proceeded to rip open the 1 watt led...actually it was an accident. Note to self - don't try to separate an emitter from it's star pcb.

enjoy the pictures:

Actually it's very simple to remove an emitter fron the star board.

Follow the instructions here, make sure you skip "STEP 2" though.

Will the LED still light without the high/low dome in place? Is it like a regular 5mm LED, where, if you remove the plastic casing to expose the die...it will...die? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you drop the naked star in oil (your choice) will it still light?

This part was acting really funny, so pulled off the dome, and the die and the phosphor came with it. This is one of the BW01's, using Luxeons "old" process, the blop technique for applying the phosphor. Newer parts have just a thin layer on the die.

On other devices, where I have bared the die, run fine when exposed to air.
