The wife really wants a Cannon EOS digital(body only). Where's a good place online to get one?

I buy almost all of my stuff at:
17th St Photo

And
B& H photo Video

There are cheaper places, but these two are very honest and aboveboard. Many of the cheaper places have lousy customer service and play real bad "bait and switch" games or sell "grey market" stuff that you can't get warranty repaired inside of the USA... In fact many of the factory authorized repair facilities won't do repairs on grey market even if you pay them. (B & H sells both US and Grey, but they are upfront about it... They call the grey market stuff "Import", so be aware of that.

Haven't bought camera stuff from newegg, but I was more than pleased with them when I ordered the parts for my newest computer.

Check reseller ratings. For great prices on US stuff with good customer service (No bait and switch anyway) try Beach Camera

My father and I used to get our 35mm SLR's from 47th Street Photo in New York. B & H is the big shoe in NY, and has a good reputation with both still and video photogs. You could also try J & R Music World, which sells cameras and computers too.

But I would strongly urge consideration of the slightly higher priced Nikon D70, if you haven't done lots of reading up on the differences between the 2.

I would also try postings this question on the dpreview.com forums.

Like a good CPF member, you will of course buy a high quality macro lens for either and steal it from you wife to take awesome close up flashlight mod pics, correct /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For those CPF members considering purchasing a digicam for taking closeup picts of flashlights, check this section of Dave's picks on imaging-resource(the author of the great AA battery shootout comparison linked from CPF so much it ought to be a sticky):

tkl,

I ordered from buydig.com twice for the Minolta Dimage X20. I now have one and my godmother has one. A steal at $144.00 shipped. I ordered it Ground and they shipped it Fedex 3 day air saver.

I like them based upon these 2 transactions, YMMV. They shipped in a timely fashion = FAST.

I agree. Unless you have Canon lenses you want to use, the cost performance of the D70 is great. Quick response and fast operation.
I have experience buying from B&H too. If you know what you want to buy, they are quick, efficient and professional. Recommended.

In person, I buy at B&H on W. 34th St. or Adorama on W. 18th here in New York City. Both are reputable and well stocked.

By mail, I frequent Samys Camera in CA, Unique Photo in Florham Park, NJ, and buy.com.

Bought all sorts of digital at all those places, from bodies to digicams, flashes to compact flash.
