Have been visiting the parents this past week. Yesterday a smoke alarm went off. Myself and mother could hear it very easily, in fact I was in shower with running water and could still hear it. My father cannot hear high pitched sounds although does ok with normal human voice range sounds. He did not hear the smoke alarm. My mother and myself are worried as he is alone in house at times. I will do some research but maybe somebody can give me a heads up as to if they make smoke alarms with a lower frequency toned alarm.

Interesting point. First of all, I'd make sure that any replacement smoke alarm came with a flashing light. If you're interested in retrofitting an existing alarm, you can probably replace the piezo buzzer with another one from the Mallory Sonalert line. Check out this link at Digi-Key for piezo buzzers.
