Surefire tailcap question

Can someone tell me the difference (pictures would certainly help!) between the Z48/49 and the Z58/59 tailcaps? I know the 48/58 are HA, but from descriptions I have read, they all sound the same in terms of function.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Dave

I've sent you an email with some photos.

The Z48/Z49 is a clickie with a shroud.
The Z58/Z59 is a clickie without a shroud - it's far more compact.
The Z57/Z61 is a clickie without a shroud for the E Series.

Al, thanks for the assistance. Unfortunately, my email seems to be taking a crap right now (I'm sure it's not my 1940's computer) so I'll keep trying. Even the description you provided helps tremendously. Thanks.

Z48/Z58 are HA finish & the Z49/Z59 are black finish. The Z57 E series clicker is also a gray HA finish.

Al and Brightflashlites,

I just now got my email working (at least for now) and really appreciate the pics from both. Now I know I really want the Z58/59.

Actually, I really should be cursing you both, since it will now cost me more $$$.

Thanks anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If the Z59 is simply an unshrouded Z49 then I would not say that it's for the 6P/Z2/D2.
The threads are compatible but the O.D. matches the C2/M2 and it looks grossly out of place.
You can see the O.D. mismatch in BrightFlashlites pic above.

The Z59's should be coming in soon so no pics yet but it will be the same as the Z58 shown above except black anodized. The Z58/59 do have the same 1" diameter to match the light bodies.

Here are better pics of what GJW was describing about the outside diameter of the Z48/49's not matching -

NICE! I didn't know they had come out with a matching O.D. clickie for the 6P/C/M/D series. Excellent. That solves my biggest gripe with the pervious clickies for these lights.

I wasn't fond of it either but the Z48/49 t/c is really better for weaponslight/tactical use. The Z48 is identical in mechanics as the SW02 but the SW02 has a thicker mid-section to help with gloved hands and/or quicker battery changes.

While I have not handled a Z59 it seems not to be HAIII black, the shiny finish looks like the regular black.

I have a Z48 on my OD G2. It doesn't look that bad since I have a KL3 LED conversion on there; kinda balances it out actually. I may get an old 6P so the whole thing looks more "uniform".
