"PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 12, 2004 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced a series of extra-bright white InGaN (indium gallium nitride) LEDs targeted for the electronic sign and signals market. These are the company's brightest white InGaN LEDs and enable Agilent to address a wider range of indoor and outdoor applications that require the brightest LEDs possible. The combination of high brightness and weather-resistant packaging makes these LEDs ideal for applications such as gaming machines, traffic signals and signs, stadium scoreboards, advertising and other variable message signs...."

Further information about Agilent's LED products is available at http://www.agilent.com/view/led

Although Agilent suggests their use in signage, I see no reason why they couldn't be used for flashlights as well.

Very interesting! It will be interesting to see how these compare with Nichia and how the market will be impacted. I wonder if these will be exclusively handled through Future?

look on page 5 of that first datasheet. it uses (mcd) in the drilldown luminosity chart. so i'd guess that they screwed up on the main chart on page 1.

but isn't a max 16000 mcd w/ a 15 degree angle still pretty good. it does look like they have a "bin" system for these.

I found the low Vf most interesting - 3.2V typical.

I ran them through my LED analysis spreadsheet and didn't find any amazing efficiency figures, but my lumens calculations have a huge margin of error.

Guys....

I have tried Aglient White LED's .... these are one of the WORST LED's in the market.... Aglient does not have 'juice' to product good whites....

At the same time, Aglient is THE BOSS... when it comes to using Red and amber LED's .... No one on this globe can match them... I think, Aglient should concentrate on Red & Amber LED's .... and should stop playing around with white LED's ... let Nicha's do what they have been doing....

You fellas do realize HP/Agilent spun off LumiLEDs in concert with Philips, right?

And you did see the news that Agilent and LumiLEDs are combining forces for some devices now....
