Anyone use their green laser for checking fiber optic network cables? a green laser should be better because it'll stand out from the red normally used in fiber networks. i'd imagine all you need to do is to shine the laser at the fiber at one end and get somone on the phone to say if they can see it at the other end (as long as they don't point it at their eye!)

I have had quite a few customers use my greens for this. It is really safer and quicker than the usual 635nm checking devices. Same optical power but much greater visibility (40 - 60 times).

Taken from Sam's LASER FAQ (http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/sam/laserdio.htm#diodlm2a)

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
Equivalent Brightness Ratings and Laser Pointer Visibility :

Wavelength Relative Factor Color Type
----------------------------------------------------------------
555 nm 1.000 33 Green Reference peak
543.5 nm .974 30 " Green HeNe laser
532 nm .885 28 " Green DPSS laser
632.8 nm .237 8 Orange-red Red HeNe laser
635 nm .217 7 " Red diode laser
640 nm .175 5 " "
650 nm .107 3 Red "
660 nm .061 2 " "
670 nm .032 1 " "
</pre><hr />

That leads to an apparent factor of 4 between 635nm and 532nm

The eye is 4 times more sensitive to green 532nm than to red 635nm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
