CPF'er Jarhead has already posted about RGB LED backlit LCD displays being shown off at trade shows. I got the impression they were intended for use in avionics, but it looks like Sony has made one available for consumer use.

Mind you, at $10k a piece, you need pretty deep pockets.

NEC-Mistubishi has been showing off their first units, intended for medical and printers (printers can always use better displays), as standard monitors, and LCDs with CCFLs cannot reproduce all the colors needed. These units cover a much larger color gamut, and the colors are alot more vivid.

Looks like Samsung are getting in on the act too. Thats most of the flat panel mfgs doing the LED thing. I wonder how long before this technology 'trickles down' into our homes?
