Well, it ought to be a recyclers dream come true. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Plus no more broken glass underfoot from these. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
Not only that, A lot of vagrants would pick these up off the streets and turn them in for a little extra "beer" money. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif
I like the idea.
I'll be looking for these.

I'm skeptical of the claim that it doesn't taint the taste. The article mentions the aluminum INSULATES three times better than glass. WTF??? ANYBODY knows that aluminum is a great CONDUCTOR of heat. That's why aluminum is used in heatsinks and even car "radiators". Maybe it meant to say the aluminum has more thermal inertia. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif

What's the world coming to? As an official old fart, I'd protest if I got served beer in one of these -- but heck, I even hate beer in cans. Somebody else can try 'em. If I can't get a). cask conditioned ale, b). draught, or c). bottled, I'll force myself to suffer through a single malt. Oh,the hardships of life... I guess I'll go cry in my beer! Stuff like this could drive me to drink.

As the country song, "I'm Gonna Hire A Wino", said about those soft aluminum cans, "and when you're feelin' macho, you can crush it like a man".

I wonder how much thinner the paper thin new cans are compared to the ones from the 60's & 70's when being a hard drinker was a badge of (questionable) honor? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/duh2.gif

Can you crush these bottles? I like the idea of
good beer in aluminum for camping especially-
you never want to risk broken glass.

I've already gotten to try some of those...I like them. Tasted great. But then again, I'm happy with Miller High Life. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some people can crush cans before they are opened!!!

Just thought I'd let you know. I can't even imagine being able to do that.

I turned in my crushed, aluminum cans the other day and got $23.

The more aluminum, the better!

Actually, it said, "The bottles have three times the aluminum of a typical beer can. That gives them superior insulation, Alcoa spokesman Kevin Lowery said."

best regards /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Better insulation than cans, but not as good as glass.

OK.. while I personally enjoyed that, we try to keep the place G-rated as much as possible. And especially with images. Thanks. - Darell

Simply makeing the can wall thicker won't make the beer stay cold and extra 50 minutes. UncleFester has it right, Al is a great conductor of heat. My theory is that they have developed a double walled Al bottle. Now that would keep your drink cold for a while. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy23.gif

Re: Beer in aluminum bottles on it\'s way!

Hmm, like the article said it seems this is an answer looking for a problem. I've seen these type of bottles in other non alcoholic drinks.

Beer does taste better out of a glass bottle.
