Ryan,

Thanks alot for the comments /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was using a 3x3W mag to light that formation.

The larger rooms, that are more evenly lit, are done by using long exposures, 8 to 15 seconds, and flashing an external flash many times around the room.

You can also "paint" with a flashlight.
Put the camera on say, 10 second exposure, and waves the light around "painting" the room with light.
You can light up an entire room that way.

Gosh! This is so cool. I've been wanting to go in a cave for years now! Great pictures. Thanks for the flash and painting advice.

Is there anyway cheap way to make a flash look more incandescent?

eebowler,

I suppose some sort of filter could be placed over the flash, though I dont know of any off hand.
I would think that would take the brightness down alittle also.

You could also adjust the photo, with photoshop, if you wanted more of a orange hue to it.

The parts you see lit with an oragne/red glow, are the colmen gas lantern, it looks really good doesnt it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
i like some of the shots, that have the flash and the lantern, they compliment each other, and the red glow in the background looks really neat.

Joe,

A lava tube? NEAT ! I would love to do that. I bet the surface had alot of neat textures.

That was a really nice photo journey.

Purple mushroom, critters, was that a skink? The red flower was awesome. I wonder what it was.

Anyway, thanks. I took two tours and will probably have to take another.

Most the cave pics were taken with a Canon A60.

Alot of the outdoor shots were taken with a Canon S100.

Video, that will com eventually, was taken with a Sony TRV-98.

cy,

I have an A10 also actually, even it is a nice camera.

The S100 is alot better, higher res and MP. etc.
I bought it mainly for its small size. I EDC it in my Fatboy.

My buddies A60 is very very nice, have alot of good adjustments, for example, you can set the exposure as long as 15 seconds !
The A60 is a good bit larger though, so, there are trade-offs.

I guess I would choose the A60, because of its better manul adjustments, and it also takes very nice macros.

I want to get an A80, or one of the A90, or A95's.
The A80 has a rotating flip out screen.

There are higher S models though, with just as many fetures as the A80, and the same small size as the S100.
BUT, one thing about the S series, they only take battery packs.
The A series takes AA batteries, and will take ALOT more pictures.
