Just got an l4.

Love it.

What pila cells do I need from jsb?

Also, what is runtime on the pila cells till it drops out of regulation?

168s, about 50 minutes in regulation give or take a couple of minutes.

Oh, and the L4 is a great light. I love mine.

How long does it run with primary cells?

This was done with C123 batteries:

Don't forget about getting a two-stage tailcap from McGizmo for that setup--makes it so much more useful.

[/ QUOTE ] How does one go about getting one of these tailcaps and how much do they run? Thanks.

I have a L4 in the mail. Your batteries look awesome.
I was wondering about the $27 price. The photo shows two cells. Is the $27 price for a set of two or are they $27 each?

Thanks,

I got mine just a few weeks ago from Meridian Tactical. Try emailing Chris to see if he has any left /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will also be getting the custom two stage tailcap for my L4 from McGizmo soon.

Ok, got the cells from jsb.

After I got them I "tried" to check the runtime. That thing gets HOT.

Can someone point me to some info/thread about the l4 and temperature? Is it ok to leave on w/o holding it in your hand to reduce the temp? etc...

The converter works harder because of the lower voltage of the battery, generating more heat than running on 2 x 123 cells. I've measured 165F on one of mine sitting on a tile countertop in 80F ambient air. I don't know how bad that is for the Lux, but I assume it can't be good.

Hello Turbodog,

Mine gets hot if I just set it on the table and turn it on. If I go for a walk and am waving it around shining it at various things, it just gets warm.

When I checked my run time with Pila's, I put the light in the sink and trickled water over it.

Turbodog,

The L4 will get hot. Especially running on a Pila and just letting it sit there. The L4 does put out a lot of light, but if you run your KL4 on Pilas exclusively and get tired of all of that heat and are willing to sacrifice some of that flood for lots more throw, then...

You can modify it. Taking it apart isn't hard. Once you have the head apart, just unsolder the 5W emitter and slap a 3W emitter on it. You'll get just about as much light (just in a different form. More throw, less spill), a lot less heat, and almost twice the runtime.

With the KL4 in this form, you could run it on the 2 cell body with the Pila or a single cell body with a single 123. DO NOT run it on 2X123 cause you'll smoke it.
