The first laser I ever had - back in 1989 - came from a broken Philips Laservision player, either the first or the second model. Imagine my surprise and delight when I managed sucessfully extract the Helium-Neon tube and driver - no diode lasers in those days, folks - and get it running off a few C cells. I still have it, actually - I should get round to posting some pics.
But what about other old, unused bits of kit containing lasers... any ideas as to what lasers get shoved where? Do laser printers and CD players use IR or visible lasers?
With this in mind:
I'll pounce on the first broken Blu-ray player I see like a dog eating hot chips.
