Q about SF L2 with Pila\'s

Friends - considering options for dual level, rechargeable lights - lots of praise for the L4/mce2s/pila combo. My searches, though, don't show up anything for an L2/pila combo - my understanding is the L2 is regulated, so output will be the same, with decreased runtime ... just want to make sure I'm not missing any nuances or gotchas about an L2/Pila combo -

The nuance is quite simple. You can't use a Pila cell with an L2; it doesn't fit. Go the L4 route; it's an inch smaller to boot.

Has anyone tried peeling the outer label off the Pila to see if it will fit? Someone tried it with a Inova X5T and it worked.
