I just came across this looking for a DVD of Pippin.

For those that don't remember The Greatest American Hero
Just a 'flash' from the past for me.
One of the last series I remember watching at all regularly.

I remember always being angry at that show because here was a program that finally had a superhero, with a costume, and with real powers, not the lame closeup-of-the-eye-then-something-telekinetic-happens "powers" that were rife in the seventies, and the producers didn't have the courage to play it straight, ala The Six-million Dollar Man. The I-don't-know-how-to-fly-this-costume gag got reeeally old after the first dozen or so times, but they just kept beating us over the head with it over and over. I wasn't looking for grim and gritty, I just wanted a superhero show where the hero was more than a joke that was only effective by accident.

Well, at least we can all look forward to the inevitable Hollywood remake. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

His problems with the suit were one of the main things that kept him out of trouble when he got sued for imitating Superman. I agree that it got old after a while but they were sort of stuck with it after the lawsuit.

I guess I was of the proper demographic age when it was on as I loved it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif If I were to re-watch it today I think I'd probably be disappointed. For now I'll cling to my happy memories. Oh, and that shouldn't be a problem since my DVD budget has lots of other things on it waiting for funding before it would reach this on the list /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Luminous that's the theme song! Hehe. I remember the theme song. Was it named "Walking on Air" or something like that.

I think Wonder Woman was out at the same time as GAH. I remember that much more vividly. Wow. I've always been a letch. Bad me.

The theme song was "Believe it or not" by Joey Scarbury. I actually bought the 45 (single) way back when. Still have it. I bet a lot of members here have never even seen a 45 (record, not the ammo or beverage).

I think my 45 is in storage somewhere, I loved that song. THe show was kinda dumb, but I liked to watch it!

That was one of my favorite shows growing up. I have memories of me and my parents laughing very hard at the first few episodes - especially the first time he crash-landed and cursed, "Damn!!". But I think I'd feel like James S's comments, above, if I were to see it today.
I was very disappointed when the show was cancelled.

The more elderly among us will remember the real-life father of the "Greatest American Hero" -- Bill Williams. He played Kit Carson in the early-50s TV series (William Katt strongly resembles his dad), and his mother, Barbara Hale, who played Perry Mason's secretary, Della Street. Don't know how/why his last name is Katt though.

I'm another one that had the hots for Connie Selleca. Didn't realize it but I was a senior in high school when the show came out in 1981.
