Revierler,

WARNING! WARNING! Majic smoke!!!! The L1 head is a dumb head and the electronics are in the flashlight body itself. The aviator will allow full 6v power to a head designed for 3v. Not Good!

The L1 head will NOT work from 3 to 9volts. The KL3 will, and possibly the KL1 (note the KL1 is different from the L1 head). Flashdark is correct that the L1 head is "dumb", meaning it has no electronics in it. This is why the L1 light itself is longer than other 1 cell lights, as it contains a "coffin" with the electronics in it. If you like a smaller body, you can direct drive some L1 heads off of a 1 cell body (such as the E1e body) with a minimal decrease in brightness.

What advantage would you have when driving the L1 head with 2 cells except for runtime? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

The L1 bezel and A2 bezel have different threadings, they are not interchangeable regarding size and electronic components used. The contact area of the A2 bezel is different than any of the other LED bezels used by SureFire.

As has been stated the L1 bezel itself does not contain any extra driver, that's inside the L1 body, using it with an E1(e) body is running the bezel in directdrive, 2 cells will ruin the LED.
