(ruling out tiny lights like photon and Arc AAA)

- regulated

- any batteries, even CR123

- under $60 street price

- at least reasonably bright

- decent runtime, I can live w/ a much shorter time if it's a high power luxeon

- solid case that won't easily break

What would you pick?

agreed. as mentioned before, add the $6 incan lamp assembly and you have a very versatile setup. funny, it is such an unassuming package--but a tough and reliable workhorse.
based upon the above criteria, this is my favorite...with those below very close seconds...

though not terribly bright, my little opalec sees a lot of around the house duty.

Badboy 400's with a minimag and kroll are alsa fabulous performers. the madmax lite is less expensive, not fully "regulated", but is an excellent performer.

eternalight elite-max fits the bill (might be a bit over $60).

inova 24/7.

many great choices out there!

lights that i do not own, but sound like real winners:

streamlight SL luxeon.

everled!

nuwai Q3 (not sure if it is regulated)

The $50 5W Luxeon that was (maybe still is) available and I think was made by Nuwai. Can't seem to recall much about that one.

***edit***
I believe this is the one I was thinking of. HERE It was on sale for right around $50 at one point.

Within 60 $, not including mods, is the INOVA T1.
No budget limits: Arc4+, if you can find it.
In reality I "wear" today the E1e/KL1, about 100 $. Highly suggested.

I'll also go with the UK 4AA eLED. With rechargeables, it can't be beat!(or maybe it can /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

My choice would a good 4AA incandescent light with an EverLED drop-in (even more so now that they have a high dome version). If you drop the price restriction, I'd stick with the Arc LSH-P with both the 123A and 2AA tailcaps. Of course, you will have a hard time finding that one now.

I like the UK 2L with the SE LED LS module. Small enough to pocket; long runtime. Tough as nails.

The UK 4AA has the substantial advantage of using AA batteries, of course.

An Eternalight Elite Xray is hard to beat for versatility and runtime. Changing batteries requires the little #0 Phillips screwdriver which comes with it; not terribly convenient.

Hard to answer since the requirements as stated are pretty vague.

UKE 4AA eLED is nice. For something a little more upscale, I'd consider an Elektrolumens Blaster 1R or Anglelux. Those have been on sale around $60, I think.

There is also the Gerber Trio, 2AA and three overdriven 5mm leds, $20 at batterystation.com .

There are things to be said for the venerable Tek-Tite Expedition series, which are near-indestructable and have enormous runtime if you include the long fading tail.

I don't understand why anyone would want an Everled except to backfit some favorite incan light. Otherwise if you want an led light, you're better off buying one designed as an LED light, rather than accept the compromises of a drop-in mod.

For another $25 the TNC AA. My favorite light by far.

For under $60 the Nuwaii Q3 is hard to beat.
