I recently bought an LSL-P #354 from TAD GEAR. I was surprised to find that it was brighter and had a better beam pattern than my LSH-ST #354. Is this common, or did I just get lucky with the Luxeon lottery? Any opinions would be appreciated.

From what I understand, the Lux in the LSH-P's were hand-selected for better quality (more output).

LSH= narrow beam
LSL= flood beam

My LSL has a very smooth uniform flood. The hot spot is not very pronounced, being more of a bright blueish bullseye.

My recolection is that the standards typically had a lux with bin code flux rating of say M or N. Where as the Premiums had a bin code flux rating of Q. The Q's are always put out a lot more light than M's and N's. The L vs H would have little if any effect on brightness. The L's tend to be more floody and not quite as consistant color across the beam. Also if one wanted to realize the properties of a fraen optic you would need to use a High dome.
