Is it still the case that the best choice for a direct plug in for a bi pin bulb base [in a 3 volt setup] is the Opalec NewBeam, or is there something else that is better that plugs in?

Thanks.

Hmmmm, the Opalec NewBeam gives you 10 hrs or so of runtime, efficiently uses batteries that would otherwise be considered "dead" in other lights, has that little red LED that says, "Hey these cells are really almost history, time to change them out!"...not "real bright" but provides a nice flood for up close work...

There's the Tektite LT-1 that uses a 3mm (or ground down 5mm?) LED along with the standard MiniMag/Brinkmann reflector to allow focusing...not bad, works GREAT in candle mode! Fits an AAA MiniMag as well and can run off of a single AA cell (MiniMiniMag modded host).

I've not seen the TeraLux MiniStar 2 (Luxeon plug in) yet, but it looks promising and I certainly want to check one out!

Is that Tektite LT-1 very bright? Does it have some sort of boost in it?
