Edit 10-26-04:
Investigation complete.
I will need to rewire the DB1k.
Edit 11-6-04:
I killed it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif
Well, just the Downboy 1000 rev.3
Instructions people, instructions should ship with any product you sell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
Anyways, I may try again with a DB, or BB, now that I now know how it's supposed to be wired this time.
I have a 1 ohm, 2 watt resistor in the light doing ok at about 700-800 milliamps with nimh batteries.
End of 11-06-04 edit.

*I'm offering this 170+ lumen marvel for $150
$60 from this goes to cpf!* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Shipped cont. U.S.A.

For those of you new to some of this, the Downboy1000 clamps the amount of current to the emitter to 1000 milliamps until your batteries have really wound down to about 1.2 volts a piece in this light.
Any type of 1.2-1.7 volt battery will do fine with this light.

On the left is a trilight3 running at 3 anps and it's full 240 lumen glory.
Middle is a 6 cell 3-2-D'ed 2 cell with a stock 5 watt mag 6cell bulb.
Right is the product for sale!

As you can see in the pic above the single 1 amp lux 5 is giving the 3 amp trilight3 respectable competition.

Re: FS *6DMagg lux5 DownBoy1000 Hotlips\'ed* with pics

Oh, by the way, that dime sized buck circuit was almost as hard to solder/wire as changing a baby honey bee's diaper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The circuit board was then arctic alumina stuck in with me holding it there for 10 minutes while the epoxy started setting.

The hotlips had to be tapped in with the wooden end of a mallot after I reamed out the "lip" of the 6d host.

Black.

If anyone lays claim to this one and you want another, I'll be happy to procure the stuff again to make another. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Nice work! However, I have to say that the pic kinda reminds me of a certain Hitchcock classic....

I wondered what was bugging me about that photo. I thought it was the spooky feet but, no, it was that clear shower curtain.

Nice mod, 3rd Shift. $60.00 goes to CPF? Nice gesture.

Re: FS *6DMagg lux5 DownBoy1000 Hotlips\'ed* with

It worked like a champ at work tonight.
I also measured some temps.
Bezel: 14 degrees F above ambient.
Hotlips pedestal: 22 degrees above ambient.
Base of dome: 24 degrees above ambient.

clearly another big triumph for Hotbeam's Hotlips design.
My main testing is done now and the light is officially up for sale at this time.
I will continue to do more testing on this light at work until someone says "I'll take it!".

After all the running around that Sasha has done in the last 5-6 weeks, she probably needs a new pair of shoes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh almost forgot, "bump". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Edit: Not sure the instructionless downboy was properly wired. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Don't you have to have a license to carry something like that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Not for home use in most states.
But it is considered a deadly weapon as much as a motor vehicle is.
For security use, you do in some states including Texas.
I finally got mine last august at www.dfwgun.com
It's the oc pepperspray-handcuffing-baton course.
I carry these alternate weapons to reduce my chances of shooting someone.
Bullets can get real expensive in court.
