Well, its time again for the annual discussion amongst those of us with young kids. Which flashlight(s) will you take when you accompany your trick or treaters this weekend?

Me, I think I'll be carrying my Pelican Big D , plus have an L4 in my pocket.

Boo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers,

Dave

I say bring the brightest and extra batteries. Blow them away at even when the sun hasn't dropped. Let them know you are a CPF'er, just don't point it my way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't have any kids. So I get to do duty at home, as a giver of the treats.

I sure miss it though. Even as a kid I remember thinking about which light I would take with me. Often it was my GT Price 2 D angle head military MX-991. Wow, that was over 20 years ago now. I still have that light, too.

Looks like I'll be dressing up as an armed guard at an apartment ghetto this halloween night. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif

I'll be using a Vector 3million candlepower, twin 100 watt bulb, 7 pound cordless spotlight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/str.gif
I'll also have my 5dmagg direct drive, lux5("W"bin), hotlipsed home made spacebaton I made last weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

BTW: for T&T, that Vector 3 mil is a very good light for safety and visibility. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
It has a builtin 5 watt bulb too that can be left on.
When you want 100 watts more, just squeezze the trigger. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My 3 kiddies are little so I'll be putting those little blinkie magnetically-attached LED's on their heads or shoulders to spot each of them as they scatter with the rest of the kids to the next house. Those were a lifesaver last year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif

Dad will be carrying a Tigerlight. No question.
Maybe a SF 8nx as backup.
And an LSH-P because it's always in my pocket anyway.
Probably a couple of G2's to hand to the kids when they want a light too.

I just went to a haunted house last night with my M6 w/HOLA, my long time dream lol. Most people there had Maglites except this one person had a Scorpion. I think they were not too happy with my light though...I wonder why... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/au.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif

i almost bought a flashlight for my niece today: it is shaped like a hippo, made by fisher price, i think.

you squeeze the handle, the mouth opens and a light turns on in the mouth.....and it giggles for a few seconds!

you squeeze the handle again, the mouth closes and shuts the light off. runs on 2-c's, and was quite a bright, tight beam...didnt look like too much spill.

it even has auto-shutoff!

Heh, just picked some up, gonna try that this year. What I usually do is just dump a chemical lightstick into their candy bags, so they glow this eerie green.

My Arc LS crapped out on me, so I'm not sure now what I'll carry myself, probably an L4.

Definitely a Thor 10 million candlepower spotlight. You can never have too much light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif For the times I need less light, my Streamlight TL-3 Xenon should do the trick.

I would be the giver of treats normally. But I fear that whatever has had me feeling this bad for 36 hours now could be bad for the tykes.

So I will just hide out.

If I did have kids to escort, I think my "Chop"ed KL3 would get the nod.

My wife is taking the kids out tonight with my (her) new Energizer fluorescent lantern and Aleph 1. I'm at home passing out candy and standing on the front of my driveway with my Space Needle II, Aleph 1 5W, and ProMagnum... and coming inside once in awhile to read up on CPF.

I love how it gets dark early. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WEll, my wife took my KL4 on the E1e body, and I took my E2D. Kids had those little flashies on them, and cyalume lightsticks. I only lit up the E2D when the paths were particularly dark.

I sent my kids (plus their freinds)out into the neighborhood, each equipped with a a light of their choice. They seemed to like the smaller lights... KL1 , KL-4, KL-5, VIP, Strion, Aleph, E2e.... the standard fare, the same lights that I used to compare with the Lion Heart yesterday. The the KL6, m3, m4, m6, Tiger Light, blah blah blah got left behind

Anyways, a hour goes by, no kids? Wheere the heck are they? I hopped into car, and down the first block, saws lots of kids with flashlights, but not mine. Second block, same thing.

I turned the corner on the third block, and I knew exactly where they were. It was little obvious as they were somewhat more illuminated than any of the other groups .

I'll probably get kicked off CPF for admitting this . . . but for trick or treating tonight I wound up using a $3.50 "Ozark Trails" branded cheapy 6V lantern from Wal-Mart. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I had it sitting around and it had never been used before (therefore a fresh original battery). The neighborhood has plenty of street lights and house lights, so to be noticed and most useful, the right flashlight would have to be pretty powerful. So I wanted something that would have some punch, and yet very long runtime . . . and I have to say this cheapy lantern was perfect for the application. I switched it on when we set out at 5:30 pm and it stayed turned on, nonstop, until after 8 pm when we finished up. This thing is bright, is a throw monster (easily lighting up houses, and down the street, over 100 yards) and yet has good, useful side spill as well. The beam is artifacty as heck when shining on a wall or garage door -- but oh well, you sure don't notice that out in the real world when walking along and using it. It had the power to warn oncoming cars that "we're here" when they're still a block or more away, and to spot kids when they wander off from the group. Best of all, the brightness appeared just about as good after almost three hours of constant "on" as when we started.

In my pockets I also had an Opalec MiniMag and an L4; neither one got taken out or used at all. I have to grudgingly admit, the big cheapy did great tonight. Nothing else I have in my inventory could have done what it did. Cheers to this old-fashioned standby!
