I wasn't sure what the appropriate forum for this is, but this seems the closest. Are there any 'mods'for a GE 4546 sealed-beam flashlight bulb?

It's for my Big Beam #164 flashlight (Pat. Feb 1953 -other pats pend., according to the side). The bulb works for now, but Iknow it won't last forever. When the inevitable happens, should I replace the bulb, or are there any 'mods' I can make - either brighter bulbs that will fit or mods to the bulb involving a visit to someone in a machining class to drill the end out. Perhaps mount a small, very bright bulb of some sort into the bulb when it dies?

One thing I like about this flashlight is that at close ranges the beam's rather wide, but it still lights up stuff really far away no problem. I suppose I could give up a little close-range width to massively boost brightness and/or distance.
