L1 - Problem?

I have a L1 Lumamax from Surefire. If I light it up in high beam mode and then return to low beam, it is dim at the beginning and then always takes some to appear in its normal brightness.
Is this standard?

Thanks

Your battery is almost depleted. If you replace the battery, you will be able to switch from the high to low again.
The low beam of the L1 is not regulated, and do not come up when the voltage of the battery is too low. The same voltage can light the LED trough the voltage converter, in high beam mode, for hours.
IMO, it is the only "fault" of this wonderful light.

A bit off this topic but do all L1's utilize a focusing mechanism rather than a reflector?
