I have one I have used since a kid decades ago. It takes a while to learn. While learning, I would suggest going into a very large field, and have everyone wear a hardhat!

I agree with that!

I made one myself using all leather (1 pair 4ft leather boot laces and a leather "pocket"). It is hard to get the hang of, but I hope I'll manage.

I made one as a kid and I can tell you that you can get an impressive amount of velocity into your projectile with a simple sling. Accuracy, however, is a different matter. You would have to invest a lot of practice even to get to the point of hitting the broad side of a barn. In fact even getting it to go down range vs. behind you is something you can't take for granted at first. There's a reason this device is so uncommon.
