Does my new Gerber LX3 have a defect?

It has a flaw in the beam. I point the light at a wall, and I can easily make out two thin dark lines shooting from each side of the hotspot all the way to the beam's edge.

Is this normal?

Uh, sounds like you're describing a shadow of the lead wires where they stick out on either side of the die.

Is that normal, or is that a defect?

It's normal if the shadows are the leads. I can't remember what sort of collimation the LX3.0 features. Most reflectors don't magnify the leads. Many optics do.

Are they symmetrical (radial or mirror)? Are they apparent at all distances or just up close? I can clearly make out the lead shadows on on my X1 at ~4" from a white wall.

I have a Lux III LED and it exhibits the same dark lines. I too believe that it is the shadow of the leds...

Will all LX3 lights show the lines, or just some?

This review doesn't mention them, and the close up beamshot doesn't show the lines, either.

My LX3 has the lines too. At 12 and 6 o'clock. That must be common with all the LX3 lights. The light does have optics and I'm sure they are the LED leads...magnified in the optic and the beam.

I have noticed being able to see those leads from the die on a LOT of luxeon LED lights. It appears to be normal. I just got another pile of them along with the new Recons and they appear to be all the same way. $40 for CPFers.

On both of my Brinkmann 2AA LED lights, it is hugely pronounced. Both have optics.

It's not nearly as pronounced in any of my Lux lights but then, I don't have any Lux lights with an optic.

Does someone make a pocket clip for the LX3, I've had it with tubes?
