Gerber LX vs. Lithiums

I read reviews of the LX 1.0 and LX 3.0 that said "recommended that the user NOT use lithium AA". Is there an explanation for this? Is it because there are no electronics in the light(s) and the Lithiums will provide too much current or cause too much heat load?

Is there any reason to suspect similar problems with the Streamlight 3AA Luxeon Tasklight?

I think they are both direct-drive lights, so lithiums may overdrive the LEDs, shortening their lifespan.

I found info. on brightguy.com where Streamlight also advises against using Lithiums in the 3AA Luxeon Tasklight.

I didn't seen any warnings for the twin-task, probably because it has "ordinary" LED's instead of the Luxeon.
