security light

I may be calling it the wrong thing, but my bro is in need of a "security" flashlight. You know one that's big enough to umm... protect yourself with.

he currently has a 4D cell maglight, and is always replacing batteries and bulbs.

is there a similar size flashlight that would be brighter and use LED (less breakable) technologies?

is there a kit to replace the bulb with a LED?

are there any semi-detailed instructions on how to convert these big maglights into LED lights (so it can be done at a decent price?)

You might look into modding a maglight yourself following the suggestions in the OA4D Cookbook.

CPF member 3rd_Shift is selling some finished magmods. I've tested several of his mods and they're all well-executed.

InReTECH might have just what the doctor ordered. They offer 5mm LED and Luxeon LED drop-in kits for the Mag-Lite.

i hear good things about the EverLED in bigger Maglites. it can work in lights that take up to 6 batteries.
