Great forum. I have a SureFire 12zn combat light. It takes four 123lithums. It has the same neck dimentions as my 6P, I compared them and the only diff is it holds two more batts and has that combat grip setup.

My problem is its stated 500 lumans is only good till the batteries overheat then it has to cool off to be used again, Is there any LED mods for this flash light? Any info is greatly appreciated,

Surefire 6P,12Z,lightwave 2000, DP 8 Cell dive light,SL 4aa led,steelman bend a light pro,VL 300,edge tech 123lith,pelican versa lite,2aa minimag, lasermax laser, and cheapies.

I purchased my 6P in 1993 I beleive with a charger and recharge set up. When I finally used the recharga;ble setup in 2000 it didnt work properly. Surefire checked my charger and gave me a new one, Six or seven years later no receipt thats not to bad.

I'm interested in whether you have the 12ZM or really a 12ZN. Regardless, it's known as the 12Z.

There is no KLx for the 12PM or 12ZM.
The KL3 will fit but it only works with a maximum of three (3) SF123As.

I have a number of suggestions what we will not discuss further in this LED section (I'm happy for you to start a new thread in the general flashlight section)

Anyway,
Using SureFire SF123As gives you longer whiter output from your N62 500Lu/12min lamp.

SureFire have two other lamps that work in your 12ZM.
The MN60 225Lu/60min, and the MN61 350Lu/20min.

The MN61 produces almost as much light and beam as the N62 but does not suffer from "thermal shutdown" and with SF123As, you do get 10-15 minutes of really good brilliant white output. If you use the 12ZM in short bursts and flashes of light rather then long constant-on burn times, the quality output will be maintained for longer and I've found giving you a very good 20 minutes of runtime.

Back on LEDs again. With regards to competing with SureFire's 500 Lumen lamps, LEDs still have a long way to go.

Respectfully,

Al

Might want to try the KL3 with the 12P (or Z) and an A20 123 dummy. It's longer than you need, but hey.....you already own the light. TX

Thank you Size15s and txwest. Yes it is 12ZM, model N62.FOund info on spare bulb package.

The mn60 and KL3 sound like the mods for me. Also glad to know theres an A20 123dummy. I assume KL3 is sold by Surefire. Thanks again guys.

You can fit in 2@ 4/5 A rechargeable batteries (43 mm long) plus one A rechargeable battery (50 mm)totalling 136 mm into your 4 @ CR123 long flashlight. (Note that 4 * 34 mm CR123 length also = 136 mm)

The question I've asked several times is whether or not the KL3 will handle 3.6V well since 3.4 V is the average forward voltage of the Luxeon Star. If so, your light is equivalent to the configuration I intend to test when I get a KL3. (I'll use a 9P body and an A19.) I just happen to have about 30 @ 4/5 A NiMHs and a much larger number number of A's.

Wow more great info lemlux, cant wait to hear the results of your KL3 test. Nice to know I can power this light with rechargables it is more affordable and I would run a M60 lamp. Thanks

My 4/5 A cells have 2000 mAh capacity and the A cells have more. If the KL3 draws around 500 mA at this voltage, this configuration should run for about 3 hours depending upon the efficiency of the electronics at 3.6 v. This capacity is much greater than the capacity of the B65 4 cell pack.

You won't want to run a P60 lamp because it requires 4 rechargeable cells to deliver 50 Lumens. I'm not familiar with an M60 lamp, but would be surprised if SF offers a 3.6 V lamp (edit) for the A sized tubes. If this is the lamp for the P3 you would be overdriving it by at least 20% which would reduce its expected life by 90%. I wouldn't advise this.

The Z20 is a dummy 123A cell.

The A20 converts a 9P to a 6R (three SF123A to one B65 NiCad)

Get it right guys!

Not that I want to start this all over again, but I understand what a Z39 is. I don't have one though...
My list has 45 Z's and goes from Z10 to Z54.
At least that's what I'm telling you!

Actually, I knew the 123 dummy was a Z20, not an A20. It was just a typo. Even though A & Z are at the opposite ends of the alphabet, on the keyboard, they overlap. :>) TX
