CREE\'s 1000 lumen LED bulb

Packaging Development Contributes to 1000 Lumens Target
Cree and Lawrence Berkeley also focused on demonstrating a compact LED with output in the 1000+ lumens range (1000 lumens is the approximate light output of a 60 watt incandescent bulb). To reach the 1000 lumens target, high radiance arrays were developed using multiple chips and custom LED packaging. The optical size of the arrays was less than 50 mm in diameter to make them comparable in size to existing incandescent lamps. Special consideration was given to the optical design to minimize optical losses.

There is a photo of it here to:

To date, Cree has demonstrated >40 lumens at 35 lumens per watt using a single LED, and a compact lamp prototype with an output of >1,000 lumens at over 30 lumens per watt using multiple LEDs. The latter lamp provides roughly the same amount of light overall as a commercial halogen reflector lamp but at twice the energy efficiency.

Re: CREE\'s 1000 lumen LED bulb

It's nice to hear about the efficiencies that the LED manufacturers are achieving in the lab, but until they put it into production and release some spec sheets (still have yet to see a spec sheet on Cree's XLamp), it's a bit annoying that they keep teasing us with news like this.

Not digging on you, Newbie.
