The 2D Ultimate Stealthlight. Check out the incan forum for the Ultimate Stealthlight thread. In a nutshell, 3000-4000 lumens. No typo, there are three zeroes after the first number.

Whatever you point it to will wonder why the sun has come up so early, and why it's risen so fast /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

CPFMan, no idea, but I'm calling it "CPF's answer to the Beast" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheaper to run than the Beast too, heck, every time I order CR123s, it's 20 cells to last me a long time...

Supposedly PT has been working on a Lux-III headlamp with adjustable brightness that takes either AA or CR123 batteries. Unless they somehow screw it up, it's my must-have light for '05.

Re: What is your \"must have\" for 2005?

I'd been thinking of a TL85 but that Stealthlight does sound interesting.

I also like the CR2 Ion, and (as a showpiece or a gift for someone else--I don't think I'd carry it) the Peak Kilimanjaro in stainless steel. And of course the Alephs.

But, I think I'm going to sell my Firefly, which was a must-have light from last year. I'm just not that crazy about it. My must-have from the year before, a McLux, is still one of my favorites.

The TL85/Mag85 are practical lights (borderline practical) when you need some seriously HIGH output for 20-30 minutes. The USL doesn't quite qualify as practical.. it's a shock and awe light but not good for the runtimes we may need in the field. Then again the design objective was absolute maximum power, not runtime, or anything else, and I can respect that.

But really, since when has that deterred CPFers from owning lights......MORE POWER, *NOW*!

At the end of the year, when I finished the selection for a new unit and finished my flat, I would buy a SureFire M6 as a gift for myself, haha...
That will be my last flashlight, im sure.

Re: What is your \"must have\" for 2005?

Something quite small, very bright, and light in weight with outstanding design, engineering and manufacturing values that is actually available for purchase here in the real world. Custom, and semi-custom, is fine; vaporware is not. There are a lot of good ideas out there, but few of them actually come to fruition. I'm looking for a light, not someone else's unrealized dream.

Whatever it is, I haven't seen it yet. But like Potter Stewart's famous definition of pornography, I'll know it when I see it.

I expect that all of this is not likely to be inexpensive, or even remotely reasonable in price, since what I'm looking for could be called a piece of jewelry - an outstanding example of the engineer's and the designer's art, that I can use and enjoy on a daily basis. But that is OK. I am willing and able to pay up for the right piece when, and if, I come across it.

The TNC Keylux AA looks promising...

But I need a house! And probably a truck this year.

And I want my own GPSr, as Dad is posesive of his OLD tech Garmin GPS45.

That would be the HDS Ultimate, newo. Buy me one And I will test it for you and post a review if you let me keep it. If not I might have to buy one myself.

Re: What is your \"must have\" for 2005?

I've decided that I like the size and 2 output levels of the Streamlight Luxeon Tasklight 2L, so that is high on my list. Now 3rd_shift is tempting me with the Nuwai model that is basically equivalent to the Streamlight. I have decided that something like this would be useful to carry in my car, but more importantly I would like to have one for camping.

I'm not sure there are any other production models that I have great interest in right now but I've got some interest in mods.

Re: What is your \"must have\" for 2005?

I figure that Streamlight is overdue for a model makeover in the TL-3 5watt Luxeon. Similiar to what they did to their TL-2 Model. Incorporating the anti-roll bezel, glass lens and regulation. If they do come out with an upgraded version of the TL-3 Lux like I just explained I am on it like flies on, well you know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Canon 20D w/ EF-S 17-85mm USM IS and 550EX. hey you never said it had to be a light! besides, the aforementioned has lots of little (and one BIG) light /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
