something just under a Mag85 using 8AA\'s?

I have a couple of now-displaced 2D M*g's and was wondering what these can become using 8AA adapters. Is there a bulb just under the 1185 that will work with 8AA? Or is the 1185 still a good bet?

The WA01318 is the ticket. Very, very nice.

M@G74!!!

M@g2D host with 8AA-2D battery adaptor, use 7AA Nimhs plus a dummy AA cell, of course metal reflector, borofloat lens and the WA1274 bulb needed.

Rated at 7.2v, so it's 6AA Nimhs, about 550 bulb lumens. 7AA Nimhs will overdriving it at 8.4v, resulting to about 900 bulb lumens. Realistic value is about 600 lumens or so out the front.

I also drive a Mag74 with my 8AA to 2D adapters but let it be known that the bulb life is short - about 6 hours before....pop. The 1318 has about 35 hours but only 534 rated lumens. Another plus to the 1318 is it runs at 1.93 amps. More runtime.

Thanx pit bull,

I didn't know that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif: 1318 will be the better option then, no need for dummy cells either.

1274 is rated at 40 hours, overdriving it by one cell can shorten its lifespan that much? 1185 is rated for 50 hours, and we are overdriving it by one cell too, so how long will it last on estimation?

The 1185 overdriven by one cell (9AA) lowers bulb life to 12 hours.

I've been running my Mag 2Ds with WA01185s off of one of Fivemega's 8AA to 2D battery adapters and have been very happy with the output. I think this give a ton of light and it doesn't overly stress the bulbs.

My question though would the 1318 actually give you more light?

I guess that's a question for Ginseng!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: something just under a Mag85 using 8AA\'s?

The WA01185 makes more light than the WA01318 at equivalent voltages since they both run at the same spec voltage.

The WA01274 on 7 cells is pushed and makes 950 bLu. At spec, it makes jsut over 550. The WA01318 makes about 530 at spec and just over 800 bLu on 9 cells. So, the '74 on 6 cells should be very similar to the '18 on 8 cells. But bump them both by one cell and the '74 gets proportionally brighter due to the higher percentage overdrive.

What NIMH are you guys running in your 8AA to 2D adapters? What brand/mah specifically? I'm having issues with the Sony 2100s not fitting, when a previous thread said they would. Frustrated!! I want my 1274!!

Re: something just under a Mag85 using 8AA\'s?

Thanks for the clarification Ginseng. I do like that setup.... WA01185 off of 8 NiMH in a 2D package. Very potent. Gets even better with an extra battery, but you add a whole D Cell size to the light. To me the smaller package suites my needs.

Now I just have to get those Mag Charger Bi-Pin mods completed!!! Tehehehehe!!

I am using GP1600s. I think GP1800s will fit also. But I am not sure about GP2000s and I am sure that 2100s do not fit, unless you want the adapter to get stuck in the light.

I guess in general is a safe bet to use Nimhs below 2000mahs, for the higher current (usually) and slimmer size.

Thanks, SJ. Have you used the 1800s? I would like to get as much capacity as possible.

Re: something just under a Mag85 using 8AA\'s?

I have Maha Powerex 2100's in a fivemega 8AA to 2D adapter and they fit only slightly snug in a silver Mag D body. They just slide in with no slop. They fit better in a black body.

see this thread: 8AA to2D adapter

I get a diameter across the batteries of ~1.338 inches, a bore diameter of ~1.340 inside the silver Mag body using the fivemega adapter.

Re: something just under a Mag85 using 8AA\'s?

Also, if you are using 2D, you might also want to consider WA1111 with 2 EL adapter to host 6AA nimh, runtime will be shorter though with its 3.35 current draw, but its a long life bulb at 100 hrs and puts out about 500 lumens at the business end.
