The Versalux PR-2 LED bulb as noted above by MagLED II, will work just fine. They are brightest in 2D lights.

That 2.4V 0.7A is the bulb's rating: draws 0.7 amps at 2.4 Volts DC.

Incandescant bulbs are generally overdriven for brightness, at reduced bulb life (and battery life).

I would get one of John's 4.5V 3 or 4 LED coversions & switch my light from a 2D to a 3C cell. TX

No, you need to put 3 batteries in it too. If you get a piece of 1" PVC, cut a piece just long enough to reach the threads in the light, the 3C cells will fit nicely. Trun the spring around & you may need to grind a little of the finish off inside the cap to make good contact. The problem with LED's is that if you're only working with 3V, you're very limited to the lamps that will work in it. TX

tx... i am a total newbie with cells and voltage

i have a question

this is what i am thinking

3 volt and 4.5 volt's diff = 1 extra cell?? is that it?

AA and AAA and C and D are the same voltage
only diff is their CAPACITY, meaning they are all same bowls just differ size?

so you mean to get 3 volts, you meant 2 cell
and 4.5 you need 3 cells
RIGHT RIGHT??

might seem dumb to you
but i just figured it out like NOW
(i hope what i said was right, else i am confuzed)

so i will just get 4 cell AA 1.5v x 4 =6.0 v
and JB's bulb can take 6v right?

is that correct?

Now you've got it. If you use rechargables though, it's a little different. They only have 1.2V each. That's why you can run a 4.5V lamp with the 4.8V output of 4 rechargables. It will be quite bright. It'll cut down on the bulb life, but even if it cuts it in 1/2, you still have 50,000 hrs. When you order the bulb, you specify 4.5V or 6V. He can build either. TX
PS
Be advised, not all lights with 4 batteries are 6V. Some are only 3V. The Boss is 6V & I believe the Turtle is.

WOW, so there is a 6 v bulb? ( i was just guessing)

so 1.5 v (4 regular cheap AA) x 4 = 6 v?
so should i ask for 6 v or 4.5 v?
what if i get a 6v bulb and changed my mind about the rechargeable cells?
if i get 4x1.2 volt (recharge cell) with 6 v bulb, what would happen? bulb wont lite up?
or what?

is it okay for me to get 6v 4 LED with rechargbles?

and also, how can you run 4.5 volt with 4 regular AA? isn't that too much?

thx tx !!!
