I'd like to put a mag together for 1185 lamp...I can get a hold of MR-16 sockets very easily, and they are porcelain.
seems like a good candidate if the pins are the proper gap.
anyone?
the MR-16 pins are 5.5mm OC apart.

Re: will bi pin WA bulbs fit into an MR-16 socket

Let me hazzard an opinion here...

I have two carley 812 (or maybe 912) PR to BiPin adapters.

I have played with MR11 and MR16 lamps in M*gs. To get an MR16 to make contact, the pins have to be thinned. The spacing is the same IIRC.

I suspect the 1185 or other bipin bulbs would rattle in an MR socket.

I'm sure one of the Hotwire MASTERS will be along shortly to shoot me down....

are you saying the pins are a smaller gauge ?, MR-16 sockets
come very tight when new, you almost have to break the pins
to get it in, if the pins on the WA lamps are the same distance, then getting the WA to stay in the socket should not be a problem.

MR-16 lamps have a 4mm pin center spacing, however, they have 1.00mm diameter pins. G4 bulbs such as the Welch Allyn bulbs have 4mm pin center spacing but 0.70mm diameter pins. However, I have a Solux MR-16 10 degree spot lamp that has 1.50mm diameter pins but this is not common.

If you are using an MR-16 socket that accommodates the 1.00mm pins, my guess is that the G4 bulb will be loose to ungripped depending on the tension in the gripping leaves inside the socket. It's worth a try though.

PS, PBJS, those would be the CL912 adapters and I remember your crazy hijinx with those MR-16s. 7x123, right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes sir Mr. Hotwire Master SIR!

It was in fact 7x123 to get decent brightness (holy crap bright at the time...) in a 4D M*g (biggest I own).

I could NEVER afford to feed it!

I have 3 3-D V2 coming, so I'm partway there to 1185 territory....

When I can get my stuff out of storage, I have a Carley 1940. I can get a stock MC lense easy enough.

Just need some bulbs now!!!

Re: will bi pin WA bulbs fit into an MR-16 socket

I have experimented with the WA bipin bulbs in an MR11 bike light, and they will plug into the MR11 ceramic socket.

I modified a 1-3/8" Carley reflector to fit into the housing, and I mounted the ceramic socket to the back of the reflector. I drilled/tapped the reflector to match the existing holes in the ceramic socket.

The tails of these WA lamps prevent them from seating fully into the socket, but they do fit securely enough to function. The lamps could possibly get knocked out of alignment if subjected to rough treatment.

Hope this helps - John
