I'm searching for assistance developing a new product. I need to power an LED that is brand new to the market, and do so in a very small space with little developed heat. Size constraint is limited to a 1" cube and needs to regulate an input of 11-14 vdc to output of 3.5vdc @ 3 amps.
Anyone feel up to the challenge? A workable solution will net the author with a freebie one of the LED's in un-marked condition.

Sure I can get the guys at work to help you out, but it's going to cost you alot more than "one of the LED's in un-marked condition" I believe we could do it for a small donation of $40,000. No really I can. $40,000 shouldn't be to much since your going to make alot of money on this right?

It would be nice to think I'll make a lot of money on it but unlikely to make THAT kind of money.
At the price of these little gems I think its a pretty good deal for someone.

OK, seriously you just need to wait a while. I would bet there are "several" chip companies coming out with tiny driver chips for Luxeons.

There are allready several out there for the Luxeon LED's. None of them come close to fire these though so the wait will be a while and we can't afford to wait anymore as the company making the LED's are looking hard to break into the US market. Would be nice to have the first retail device useing them.

Hi Lotsaluck,

Try searching for "step-down regulator" on google, or on any number of IC manufacturer's websites.

A quick search turned up several options very quickly. It took about 15 mins to grab what looked like the most viable ones due to size and limited external components.

Most of these should get you a complete circuit inside a 1" cube fairly easily using a 2-sided pcb.

You can send me that LED any time you're ready.

I've been looking at the maxim parts today already and have a sample board on it way from them. If it fills the need, you have an LED.
PM me and I'll get you my email...
