Since white led's are blue led's with a phosphor above the die... Has anyone tried to coat the outside of a blue led with phosphor/glow powder to make their own? Kind of a homebrew white led.

The LED Museum reviewed some "caps" that can be placed overstandard 5mm LEDs that do just what you're speaking of.

Wow- I never saw those caps before- pretty neat. It'd be cool to throw a warm white onto a blue CMG infinity for a nice diffuse reading light w/ long runtime and no annoying blue hotspot like the whites have.
