Some idiot posting spam in our forums

I pray to God that All spamers and telemarketers suffer a slow and horrible death.

Our current wave is coming from India. We've been catching them and removing their posts and banning them... but they keep coming. I've tried banning the IP they are using but for some reason it's not working properly. I'll be working on fixing that today. If we miss some, please let me know and I'll have it removed.

I think that the lowest level in hell is for Spamers and telemarketers!!

Thanks for keeping this crap out of the forum. I never notice that it isn't here until it shows up. It is nice to be able to avoid that stuff.

We certainly appreciate anyone notifying us of these offensive posts when you see them. Sometimes they exist awhile before we can get to them, but if we are notified of them - hopefully they will disappear "sooner than later"!

Additionally, please don't post in those threads. Deletion of them is possible and far easier on the CPF database if there are no followup posts.

We all know that "deleted threads" are pretty much a "NOT ALLOWED" thing around here, but I'm hoping exceptions can be made on these so as not to give the jerks the "airing" that they wish!

I like to use the email they give and subscribe to all the "porn in your email" sites.

MrMimizu, if you are talking about signing up the address used in the "From" header to porn sites, then you're signing innocent people up to them. The "From" address is nearly always spoofed, or used from a trojan infected computer. So, the address you use to sign up sends porn to someone that didn't request it.

If you end up signing up a child to receive that porn, and it gets traced back to you (which it sometimes can with enough effort) you may end up getting a visit from an agency you'd rather not.

Spammers don't give their real address; they give someone else's.

I've banned entire countries at one shot after finding out the relevant netblocks (blocks of IP addresses allocated to each country) by their appropriate numbering agency. In my case, I just inserted a deny rule in the border firewall for an entire /16 netblock... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif However, that may be a little draconian considering CPF's international user base - the last thing we want to do is cut off legitimate users.

I'm NOT talking about the ones in the "from" headers, hopefully everyone knows that those aren't much use to anyone.
Nah, I don't do it with those spammers. There's not much I can do with that.
I've done it to those ones with a product to sell and a website. So I check out the site(manually typing in the url) and then usually there's a contact email which I will sub to stuff. haven't done it in a while though..always wondered how well it worked..
Then there's the ones that have "reply to: [email protected] to not receive any more solicitations".
