The compatibility with different battery types is a consequence of the UK's true, rock-solid regulation. Few flashlights, especially inexpensive ones, have this. With unregulated or semi-regulated lights, there is always a risk that batteries with a higher voltage or lower internal resistance will make the LED go *zap* and let out its magic smoke.

One of the things I like about UK. . . their lights are ok with Lithium batteries. Haven't checked lately, but their FAQ on the website specifically stated that Lithiums were ok for their lights, unlike Streamlight and Inova, who say that using Li's in their AA lights will void the warranty. Li compatibility makes UK's great emergency kit lights, especially given their very reasonable price.
