interesting in getting an e1e and kl1 or a q3. I want to use r123a from battery station for guilt free lumens. I know the beam quality of the kl1 is tighter then the q3. The run time on for r123a in thebatteries q3 is about 45+ min. Anyone know the runtime for the r123a in the e1e with kl1?

Haven't had a chance to play with the q3, but I love my e1e + kl1.

The place I work has quite a few power outages during the course of a year. Way too many cheap lights around. Usually with no batteries and/or dead bulbs. Cheap is the way to go when the lights go out, huh? Also, I use mine to scout around in dark areas/pallets while everyone else has to tear the whole pallet apart.

My coworkers are definitely not light guys but they know I edc two or three (at least) led lights. The e1e + kl1 is the one everyone seems to notice, even more than the 5 watter I have. They are very definitely interested in mine so I guard it closely.

BTW, it fits nicely in a large SAK (Swiss Army Knive) sheath.

Thanks.. I carry it around in my coat pocket everywhere or in my pants pocket. It has just the right amount of throw to see for a distance in the dark..

Is cost an issue? I understand it can be. The Q3 wins bang for the buck. It's untouchable for what it delivers. Adequate regulation, reasonable construction and a Lux3 up front. NOTHING in its price range comes close. If you take advantage of 3rd_shift_light's "binned" (sorted by tint) Q3 offer, it's unbeatable.

If cost is no object, 3rd-generation KL1 + E1e, with Surefire's legendary KL1 buck/boost/everythingandthekitchensink circuit. Precision regulation as opposed to a cheap Zetex circuit, eats ANYTHING from 2-9V that you can feed it. Rechargeables, NiMH, lithium ion, alkaline cells, if you can cook up a battery holder it will eat it. Mod it to a SO17XA reflector and tweak the drive current if you desire. Get a Z57 PROPER (instead of reverse) clickie, plus true HA3.

Of course, you lose BIG time in the pricing department /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif but if you are the kind who brooks no crap and makes no compromises, you know what to get. You may want to take out calipers and measure you wallet in advance and take pride in that reading, for once you get started with the Surefire stuff, it will never that fat again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If cost isn't an issue, consider the E1e + KL4 (4th gen) and a BS R123. Tremendous output of a Lux V is such a small package.

I've got both an e1e+KL1 and a Q3. They are both nice lights. I think one thing to think about is whether or not you like throw vs. flood. The Q3 has very nice flood - it's very useful. The KL1 is all about throw, it's more or less a spotlight. They are both nicely bright. They are similar sizes. I like throw, and I think the e1e+KL1 is a better built light than the Q3, so I EDC the SF light. The good news is I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice you make.

Just want to add a caveat that this all depends on which generation KL1 head you get. The latest generation KL1 head definitely throws but does not have much flood. The older generation KL1 head has more flood. I do not have a Q3 though, so I cannot compare the flood of the older generation KL1 vs. the Q3.

The older generation KL1 has more flood than the current KL1, but still less flood than a Q3. Some people don't like the current KL1 because it's such a tight spot. I like it better, personally, but some don't.

The Q3 is a lot of bang for the buck - it's a hell of a deal. The e1e/kl1 is a top-quality light at a top-quality price.

Maybe the CPF mantra applies here - "Buy 'em both"?

I've got the E1e/KL4 and the QIII, and the SF package is tougher than the Q but the Q is sooooo much cheaper. .

I gave my Q-III to my daugther. the nuwai is bang for the buck winner but can't touch a KL-1 (4th gen).
I got mine on a vital gear 1X123 body,Ordered yet another VG/KL-1, and I have a E1L, but the kl-1 on the VG FB-1 is perfection. size, feel, good runtime considering the brightness.I love the beam and said in my thread, it's the beam i would have if i could make my own light's.killer VDG

Would this be considered as "vote tampering". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I guess I'd better get in my vote for the E1e/KL1. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Yeah, but I'm the lucky one who has a whiter beam in the QIII than KL4. .

I opted for a late gen KL1 and a FB2 VG body when I was looking for a similar light. Both bought on B/S/T,and total cost only around $85. This gives a tiny set up,lots of runtime and good build quality.
You might want to think about the switch though,as you don't get a Z57.Can't (usually) win 'em all!
Just my 2p worth. HTH /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Im deployed in Iraq and the things I do I definatley want throw over flood. I edc a streamlight lux jr. its a good flood, the throw sux on it though, all in all its a good light but i want something a bit more powerful, have more throw and smaller size. Cost isn't really a factor. I can get the e1e here at the px for $61 + no tax =) I guess ill just get both e1e and q3. Can anyone tell me the lux measurment on the e1e w/ kl1 on BS r123a batteries?

Here's another option OB1. I use a "drop in led module" from Bugoutgearusa ($40) in a standard G2 (from your PX?).Then put a FM34 beamshaper on it($30).
This gives a superb light, with light weight, long runtime, spot(with good sidespill) and a superb area light(with FM34 cap down).
I put a clickie on mine, andadded a turned plastic ring to give a G2Z feel/look,but you don't nned to,to get a great light.Only drawback, slightly larger than your average 2x123 cell light. I don't mind that as I have big hands.

You might also want to check out the Aleph 2 head on a Vital Gear body. My personnal favorite these days...
