\"Perfect Tri/Quad Sinks\" and little ol \"Minetrois\"

Fellow Flashaholic, you guys have seens my terminial illness for lumens crave have been getting worst and worst. I used to be happy with a 20+ lumen MicroMag, then 80+ lumens "D-Pill", then 150+ lumens "FatMag", then 200+ lumens "Minetrois" and most recently the 300+ lumens "Quadamire". It seems like it an Moore's Law for flashaholism applies to me very very well.

I received several version of the Tri-Star from various sources. They were all very well built but not quite 100% of what I was looking for. Either the HS was too thin, too complicated, or plainly just doesn't work with the best current available reflector for their size. A major problem for those who attempt to assemble was clustering the stars. They move around and you just can't get it perfectly centered.

So here's my requirement/solution:
+ perfect auto centering of star & emitter.

+ more surface contact to improve heat transfer.
+ thicker plating to improve heat sinking.
+ reduce the cost so the everyday "modamag" can afford one.

Introducing the first of in series of "Perfect Mag Sink" ....
.
.
. The "Perfect Tri Sink" (aka PTS). (2/14/05)
.
and the second in the series ...
.
. The "Perfect Quad Sink" (aka PQS). (02/22/(05)

- Recessed pockets for perfect alignment of Tri-Star and Quad-Emitter.
- Increase heat sink height for maximum heat transfer.
- Protruding rear for optimal sink to MagD body.
- Designed to accommodate IMS SO20XA reflector for optimal throw.
o Micropores cooling for extreme apps (borrowed from semiconductor industry)

modamag :
Will Tri-sink also fit carclo's triple holder (for 3x 6degree optics)? If yes, I'm interested to buy some.

Modamag,

Which host is a minimum ? Mag2D is okey?
>> #4. Tri-Star Complete Assembly - $120
>> Prewired Kit with FatMan Driver connected modded switch

What light is made to host? Which batteries shall power this? Are 2x3AA-D included, or I could run 2xPila150s?
>> #5. Tri-Star TurnKey unit - $160
>> Complete ready-to-run, just requires batteries.

Re: \"Perfect Tri Sink\"

These are available in "C" or "D" size, ready to ship.
Just indicate which ones you want when PayPal.

wallyrulz: "Are you going to make any for the 2C?"
If you mean "C" size for Mag2C then yes.

Sway: The Quad design is still being "tweaked". Normal Luxeon stars will not fit you have to file down the corner couple mils due to the break tab.

Warren: I designed these so they don't need the triple optics holder (more cost) to an already expensive item. But it will work fine with Fraen or NX05. Actually the beam is even tighter due to reduced spacing between the Luxeons. See what I mean /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any Mag host ... Mag1D-6D or Mag1C-6C will work.

First post updated with clarification for #5 & #6. And everything (3AA-D) is included in TK version.

Re: \"Perfect Tri Sink\"

I was working on a similar design for heat-sinking Luxeon stars(as opposed to emitters). My problem was setting the focus doesn't work well with stars when using reflectors. It didn't even occur to me to use an optic(OR three)Great Idea!! Are there any LARGE optics which would work with the mag head and a single heatsink mounted STAR? Hmmm...

a-w-e-s-o-m-e! A centered and recessed heatsink so that SO20XAs will fit a MagD - I remember I had some problems with my Mag3X-1D due to a miscalculation of the height on my part.

Well done modamag...

Re: \"Perfect Tri Sink\"

* All paypal logged, will be shipped within 48hrs.

eTendue: No glue needed. There is approximately 15-20 lbs of clamping force from the lens.

Kevin: You should change your sig to say "Life begins at 200 lumens" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hotbeam: Just following your lead. Since X-bins can't be found, this is the next best thing.

yaesumofo: Large optics are available but at a $$$ price. I got some at work which are made out of saphire /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif that is able to withstand "plasma".
