SF L6 vs SF U2

Hi guys, I am getting either one of this L6 or U2. Yeah, the U2 has 6 levels output, but I rarely carry only one single light around, usually A2 and X5T so literally speaking I have a "low" which is the A2 low, "medium" - X5T and "high" - A2 on high, 3 levels of light that I can choose. So 6 levels is a feature that i can do without. What I am interested now is to find out is the throw of U2. Does it throw as far as the L6? From what I could gathered, U2 on level 6 gives about 2200 lux which is almost the same as L6. I am suspecting that it should throw as far as the L6 based on the lux reading, am I wrong? Since both lights are of the same price, which one to get for throw? I know the L6 is much bigger but that is a non-issue, really. Who owns both lights? Could you give some comment? Thanks.

It is just like the L5 vs. the L6 ... with the L6 having a slight edge in throw over the L5 due to a deeper reflector.
Not commenting about size, battery life, ...

As Kiessling said, the L6 has more throw, but not much. The best throwing LED light I've seen so far is the Aleph3 with a Lux III.

Hoya....where did you get the info that L6 output 2200 lux?...according to Ledmuseum L6 only made about 1350 lux at 1 meter. If you have a light meter could you able to measure the lux in 1 meter...my L5 (hand selected from 2 dozens of L5s) makes 1600lux at 1 meter.

Aleph 3 outthrow anything except Mag ... My Aleph 3 with DB917/TWOL makes about 5500lux at 1 meter.

I just measured 1730 lux on my L6 with old batteries. This is at 1 meter from the bulb, not bezel, and I move the light around to find the brightest spot.

How do the L6 and Aleph compare in total lumen output?

It depends on what Light Engine is used in the Aleph. For total lumen LuxV beats LuxIII hands down. I've got a DB917/WXOT on Aleph 3 (measured at 4000lux at 1 meter) and the it certainly beats L6 in the throw department because of the larger reflector on Aleph 3. If the L6 has a W LuxV bin then the total lumen should be similar.

My
L4 measured ~800lux
BB750/luxV PR measured ~1550lux
BB750/WX1S Aleph3 measured ~3600lux
NG750/TX1J PRT measured ~3000lux
nflex/VY0T Mag2D measured ~5400lux
DB917/TY0L Mag2C measured ~10500lux
hopes this would help~

If you want higher total lumen together with some throw, a LuxV w/Aleph3 should be a nice setup.

U2 on high

relux338.jpg

Aleph3 with LuxIII at 917mA --> 4930 lux

The overall lm output of the Aleph is less, of course, after all it uses a LuxIII. But throw is monstrous on this relatively small head.

Here's the Aleph3 head with a LuxV LE driven at 917mA:

relux538.jpg

3450 lux

It smoke the L5, L6 and U2 easily, but is driven hard.

P.S.: all camera setting equal, so a direct comparison is valid except for the luxeon lottery.

The L6 throws farther than the INOVA T3!

At least, this is what my eyes tell me.

I agree. I compared the L6 with SL TL-2 LED (2nd Gen.) and T3. L6 not only throws further than T3 but almost on par wioth the TL-2 LED (2nd Gen.).
