I got my mag 11 built pretty nice almost as bright as mag85... 2D form factor
WA01111: 6V spec (464.95 lumens), 7.2V push (880 lumens)
Carley Reflector, UCL,FM battery adapter...6x2100mah NiMH

Whats that a 747 landing in my living room?

Nope just a Mag 11 and Mag 85 in a pitch black room...

So do any other configs beat this setup in a 2D light?

Yep! The Mag74 (WA1274) running on 7AA + dummy battery. Its about 948 lumens. Lamp life is shorter by a few hours, though (something I don't care about.)

WELL, the 74 sort of beats it in the 2D.

It's dependant on the cells. My experience is that the 1111 on 6 CBP 1650's is brighter than the 1274 on 7 consumer grade AA's. You can't get 7 1650's into a stock 2D so it is a little unfair, but if you are using the STOCK 2D, I think the king is the 1111 and 6 1650's.

Does this require a bored tube to get 8AA's in a mag?

There are 8AA-2D adapters that fit easily in a 2D mag, but some of the higher capacity AA NiMH's that are available now are slightly too large in diameter and won't fit.

You can check this link, about halfway down, for more discussion on what batteries fit:

I got nothing to compare it to except an off centered 1318 on 9AA, but my 1174 on 7 Energizer/Sanyo 2100 is pretty darn awesome.

I'll do it in a 2D when the stuff arrives, but I'll flap hone the inside of the 2D first!

I wish the usl thread was more concise..seems like you have flip between 5 different threads and thousands of posts to find out any meaningful information, let alone pics...
