Opinions on companies

I'm trying to get an opinion on certain flashlight
companies. I just want to throw something at the
group to get an idea of how people feel about
entire companies (and their lines..not individual lights.
To do this I'm going to match companies against each other.

I'd like to know which company you'd pick w/o knowing
which light in each line we'd be considering. The temping
obvious answer is "depends on which exact light you're talking about",
and I'm going to purposely leave that out.
Instead the rule is that you DON'T know which light in each
line, just that for each line a light would be selected
for you and you have to choose which company you want. This
way I get an idea of people's opinions of entire companies
and their products.

Ok...here goes........

Duracell Vs. Eveready...(does it really matter? ha ha)
Dorcy Vs. Garrity
Streamlight Vs. Pelican
Nuwaii Vs. Longbow
Mag Vs. Brinkman
UK Vs PT
Surefire Vs. Nightcutter...(I know, I know, but who else
would show up for a slaughter
anyway?)
ASP vs Photon

I've probably left a few out, but this is a start I guess.

Thanks

What the heck. I'll give it a go.

Eveready
Dorcy
Pelican
Nuwai (don't think they're a mfg though)
Brinkmann
PT
Surefire
Photon

There you have it. I'll be interested to see where this leads.

Eveready (they make 6 volt lantern cells with TRUE F cells)
Dorcy, but it's close
Pelican (Streamlight has been bought out, and good luck dealing with them now).
Nuwai vs Longbow,...don't know the difference.
Mag, well,...it's just a very reliable light.
PT
Surefire-well, DUH,...
Photon

Roy,
Maybe they are starting a company that sells some of these products, doing a research paper, running some evil marketing project. It seems we are guinea pigs sometimes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif The last was that girl in Hong Kong I believe, doing a research paper for school.

CH,
Streamlight got bought out, yikes. How did I miss that. Do you have a link?

Roy,
Just curiosity that's all. 20 years ago I thought
that the worst flashlight co. on the planet was
Dorcy with those poorly molded yellow plastic flashlights.
Back then I thought that Garrity made a "fair" cheap-o for
the money and several of their rubberized line were actually
waterproof. I'm wondering now if my own opinion hasn't
reversed on those two. Sooooo...I thought I'd pit competitive companies....(such as Pelican vs Stream) against
each other and just see if people see these companies entire
lines the way I do.

No market research here...just personal curiosity. People
will often pick a winner amongst two becuase they like
1(one) light in the line....I wanted them to think about
the entire range of products.

That's all.

A very strange dark place
I'll bite! (I have a sore throat so...)

Duracell Vs. Eveready
Eveready I like their lanterns

Dorcy Vs. Garrity
Dorcy The $6 AAA is a great LED light

Streamlight Vs. Pelican
Pelican Broke a few SLs in my day

Nuwaii Vs. Longbow
Nuwaii Good value and interesting lights

Mag Vs. Brinkman
Stock Brinkman Modded Mag

UK Vs PT
I would go for UK for their 4AA eLED light

Surefire Vs. Nightcutter
Surefire (have no use for them)

ASP vs Photon
Photon! Mainly for their durable coin cell lights and the awesome variable output 60 lumen single AA light (in June)

If I ever need an ultra-high output light, I'll pass on the Surefires and get an Elektrolumens QuadLux running on NiMH batteries. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Selections based on experience with company products, rather than the companies themselves (although I've dealt with customer service for a few of them). Subject to change at anytime, but for right now:

1) Eveready
2) Dorcy v. Garrity (no preference, as no experience w/ either)
3) Streamlight
4) Nuwai v. Longbow (Nuwai ho-hum, no experience w/ Longbow)
5) Brinkman
6) UK and PT, I like them both equally
7) Surefire
8) Photon

Duracell Vs. Eveready...

<font color="blue">Doesn't matter. Both are low-end and limited use flashlights my opinion says.</font>

Dorcy Vs. Garrity

<font color="blue">Dorcy by a slim margin. Neither I like much though.</font>

Streamlight Vs. Pelican

<font color="blue">Pelican</font>

Nuwaii Vs. Longbow

<font color="blue">Tough choice. The only Longbows I have are Micras. The only Nuwais I have are Q3s. Q3 wins because of superior beam quality my opinion says, and slightly more runtime. Nuwai is not who makes the flashlights though, they simply export them and stick their name on them if my memery serves well.</font>

Mag Vs. Brinkman

<font color="blue">Mag for better quality my opinion says. Though Brinkman probably wins out for better business practice.</font>

UK Vs PT

<font color="blue">UK</font>

Surefire Vs. Nightcutter...(I know, I know, but who else
would show up for a slaughter
anyway?)

<font color="blue">Surefire</font>

ASP vs Photon

<font color="blue">Don't know. Never owned ASP. Just so-so on my Photon Microlight. Its average, nothing special I says.

I think the Surefire vs Nightcutter is a little lopsided. How about Inova vs Nightcutter? That seems like a much better comparison, when you consider the similarities in product lines. Heck, Inova and Nightcutter are both made in Massachusetts, aren't they? They are nearly identical in dimentions among similar lights. I have both a Nightcutter, and 2 Inovas. I like them both equally.
